Ho-la Ho-la Ho-la

Parra is an illustrator/designer from Amsterdam. Most of his work is done for his own band, Parra Soundsystem, and his clothing label, Rockwell.

I love the cases he made for ipods and Macbook Pro. So awesome.

His artwork is great. People like him and So-Me are like a revival of Peter Max and Push Pin Studios. Rounded shapes in bright colors. In other words MY FAVORITE THING EVER. His absurd character design looks best when it's animated.

Unicorns and lasers

I just came across this freelance illustrator from Finland named Sakke Soini. He says his retro-futuristic album cover style is inspired by old-school sci-fi (Tron for example). The laser effects are so 80s, it's fantastic. I wish Guitar Hero/Rock Band looked like the scales shooting out of that tiger's mouth.

Amazing song.

For billions of years since the outset of time

Every single one of your ancestors survived

Every single person on your mum and dad's side

Successfully looked after and passed on to you life.

What are the chances of that, like?

It comes to me once in a while

And everywhere I tell folk it gets the best smile.

Probably the best drawing I've ever done

"Meow" is right!

Design Inspiration: Threadless

Threadless is an online apparel store that lets users submit designs, which are then voted on by other users for a chance to be printed and sold on the website. It's a great opportunity to promote personal work you're proud of!

I did this once several years ago—I didn't win (in hindsight they weren't my best designs), but it was interesting!

Design Inspiration: Jauna Gaita

Jauna Gaita is a Canadian-Latvian literature magazine that celebrated its 53rd birthday last year. The covers are varied in their concepts but they're all tied together by the simplicity and usage of the magazine logo (sans any other text other than the issue number). A lot of this stuff is very Paul Rand. I love it.

You can look at all of their covers on their website.

Uncanny!

Undersea bug monster from Jabberjaw = Zorak from Space Ghost.

They call themselves the Lovely Angels, actually

This is the very James Bond-looking opening scene for a movie based on the Dirty Pair anime, and one of the most amazing pieces of animation I've seen. Key animation was done by my hero (well, one of them), Koji Morimoto.
I love the color usage in the backgrounds, the amount of detail shown in the line quality, and all the cool stuff happening.

The funny thing is that this totally gets you in the mood for a 007-style spy movie, when in reality the story is a sci-fi action comedy romp with hilarity ensuing everywhere. The main characters are only shown at the beginning, then it's a lot of awesome dramatic abstract imagery. I can't think of a better contradiction! (...at the moment!)

I made these flower illustrations 3 years ago, intending to make a calendar or something but haven't figured out how to make it look interesting yet...

Hang in there

Dedicating this song to Sarah:

Thank you

Thank you all for wishing Sarah a speedy recovery. They told her at the hospital last night that they saw a few blood clots in her lungs (they said it was pneumonia at first). That explains the blood she was coughing up on Saturday, and the extreme pain she was experiencing that led me to drive her to the ER.

I was really scared last night, but she's doing a lot better now! The pain isn't nearly as bad thanks to the medication (morphine for the win, or something). I left the hospital at 7am this morning, and just woke up at 3:30. Hopefully the jetlag won't affect me too badly at work tomorrow, haha.

Thank you all again!
